debug and caution in "..render the system unusable" question

Cisco literature indicates that a debug should be exercised with caution as, "debugging output is assigned high priority in the CPU process <and> can render the system unusable".

I have always understood "system" to mean the device to which the debug is applied. Should I view it in a broader sense? Can a debug on an access switch bring down not only itself but extend mayhem to distribution and even core switches?

You can't completely rule it out. Sufficient enough to tip over an access switch.

Having done it to a core router ( a long time ago) its not something that needs

testing...
