Hi all,
What is your experience about this topic?
I want to delete a subinterface, create a portchannel, configure a subinterface on this port channel and then assign the ip address of the first subinterface to the new subinterface.
I do not want to reboot the router after the change.
Do you think will this config work?
Thanks all for your support!

My experience with subinterfaces is that you can easily remove the IP and reassign it to another subinterface and this won't be a problem.
You can shut the original subinterface as well.
But usually you need to do a reboot to actually get rid of the orginal subinterface configuration. You can try shutting the main physical interface and then bringing it back up but from memory i remember having to reboot to actually get rid of the unused subinterface configuration.

I agree with Jon. With subinterfaces, if you're truly wanting to delete it, the router/switch will need to be rebooted. The status is "deleted" and will stay in the config. Now, if you don't want to reboot immediately, you can still run with the deleted interface as long as you created another subinterface to run over. You can schedule the reload for later.
Also, you can change the address on the subinterface if you want without deleting it. I'm not sure what will happen if you delete it, it goes to a deleted status, and then try to reuse it. I've never done that....
HTH,
John
