deleting vlan

Hi All,

We want to remove few vlans from the vlan database of the switches ( switch models are 3750 & nexus 5548 ).

These vlans have ports/trunks associated with them.

What should the correct sequence of removal be. Should the vlan be removed off from the access & trunks ports first and then removed from

vlan database? Or can the vlans be first deleted from vlan database and the ports removed later on?

Appreciate reply. Thanks in advance.

Sutha,

It really doesnt matter any way you can follow to delete the vlan.

1- For example you have many interfaces configured with the vlan information . Now when you delete the vlan first the ports which are part of that vlan will not have any value of it though it has the vlan information configured.

2- Deleting the vlan first on the interface, Though you have deleted the vlan information of the port but still vlan is there on the database and STP will be enabled for that vlan. Nothing will happen but vlan will be existing on the switch.

Either way will be fine.  Just don't forget to save your config and make sure you check your VTP mode.
