Designated Port Election

To remove the possibility of bridging loops, STP makes a final computation to identify
one designated port on each network segment.

What is mean by "network segment" here?

Hi

You are welcome, the term network segment can be ambiguos, but basically it is a connection between switches:

As it says, it depends of the context but you could have the root bridge for all the VLANs on one network segment, in few words the root bridge is configured on one switch for all the VLANs.

Hi,

This term is more seen on layer 3 but we could assume layer 2 segment as referring to VLANs or Bridges used to connect layer 2 infraestrutures, altought it could be a connection between 2 switches or switch and host.

Sometimes the different VLANs said to be in a segment, is it the same?

Hi

Basically all the VLANs should have the root on the same L2 segment  or other option is have load balance (a group of VLANs with root on one L2 Segment and other group of VLANs with root on other L2 Segment), now the designated port will be selected by lowest Root path cost. You can modify this values if it is required.

See L2 network segment like a switch.

Hello
First, I am really thankful for the instant help.
Is there a crossing point between the two, I mean the VLANs and the connection between two switches. Is this called a segment and the other called a segment?

I got the answer, but just to say, I have not reached the idea of the PVST. Thank you ^^.

You are welcome my friend,

Have a great day
