DHCP configuration for DNS entry without a DNS server

All,

Is there a way to configure DHCP server so that the DHCP client will locally generate a static DNS entry for specific site? I do not have control on the DNS server but want to generate DNS entry on the client through DHCP. When the DHCP client get an ip address from the DHCP server, the DHCP server also injected a static DNS entry on the DHCP client, for example, when the DHCP client got address of 192.168.0.1/24 from the DHCP serever, it also get a static DNS entry from that DHCP server such as www.xxxyyyzzz.com - 192.168.1.100.

Thanks.

Hi Yuhuiyao,

No I'm afraid this is not possible.

Why can you not place the DNS entry on a DNS server, and point the clients at the server instead?

If you don't have a DNS server to point them at, you can make a Cisco Router act as a DNS server.

Alternatively you can use a logon script to place entries in the Computers' HOSTS file, but we are getting into computer configuration land here, and this is a Cisco Forum....
