DHCP Issue with ISP on Cisco 2621XM

Hello,

I have a Cisco 2121XM running IOS Version 12.4(17).  I have tried every way I know how to get DHCP to work with my local ISP.  I have TDS Telecom “fiber”, it’s not an actual fiber line coming in but there is no modem.  I connect the Cat5 into the Cisco router and it will not obtain an IP address.

I have connected non-cisco routers and they all obtain without problem, even straight into my laptop.  The IP address is not static, but it has a very long lease time because I can have the same IP for months.  However, even setting static IP on the Cisco router, it was unable to connect to TDS.  I’ve even tried spoofing the mac-address just in case they were blocking the cisco equipment.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Steps I’ve attempted

1) Using a crossover from TDS line to Cisco router

2) Updated IOS version

3) Spoofed mac-address

4) Cleared all configs and started from scratch

Can you try a debug

debug dhcp detail

this should show the dhcp send & recive packets and may give a clue as to where things are wrong.

Hello ,

Nice suggestion given by Alex to see the debugs. I would like add a following point :-

1. Try to put static ip address on the fa interface and see if it works.

2. Static ip will be the same which is Acquired on the laptop.

3.try to change the port.

4.Mac address can be registered by telco , which can either be cleared by reloading the modem device or can be flused upon calling your provider.

5. Try to shut the port , reload the modem and unshut it.

6. Share the debugs.

If you've got no modem how are you connected to your ISP ? Is it DSL or Cable provider ?

Can you explain a little bit more.

Hello Lewis,

Is that the entire output you get? Nothing else.

I mean based on this we can tell you that the router is sending the DHCP Discovery Packet and there is no DHCP Offer Packet with the IP address provided.

As Ashish said:

Reload the Modem so we can clear the different tables maintained on their site regarding our client and then shut no shut the Interface of the router to see what's going on (Please leave the debugs on while you try this process).

   Thank you for your reply, there is no "modem" with my connection.  It comes from the pole to the ONT on the side of the house and into the house via Cat5e.  I've reset the ONT with the same debug result.

Looks to me like a duplex mismatch between cisco and ont.
Try with fixed speed (100) and duplex (probably half)

Thank you for your reply -- I set it to 10 and 100 (speed) with no change... I also then set half duplex and full, with no change in DHCP logs.
