differences between stp and rstp

Can anyone list the plain differences between these in simple terms ?

Hi,

To quote Cisco:

"RSTP can achieve much faster convergence in a properly configured network, sometimes in the order of a few hundred milliseconds."

As opposed to 802.1D which takes the best part of a minute.
