Hi everyone,
I am new here and my question is probably trivial to some of you. I want to use a CISCO switch in my setup and connect multiple clients to the same switch in different VLANs. My questions is, can I configure the switch to support standard Ethernet frames in one VLAN and Jumbo Frames in the other VLAN? Or is this even possible to configure that on port level so that I would not need different VLANs? I do not want to use a second hardware switch if possible, to save space in the rack.
If this is possible, are there CISCO products that support my goal and others that do not support it?
Thanks for your help,
Tom

Hi @Thomas22 ,
Q1: WHY do you want to have different frame sizes per VLAN?
If you can configure the whole switch for Jumbo frames, the VLANs that don't NEED jumbo frames will NEVER KNOW THAT ITS BEEN ENABLED - and work just fine.
If you approach an underpass with a clearance of 9m, but you only need 1.5m, you don't slam on the brakes and go looking for a different underpass that has a clearance of 1.5m!

The specific type of CISCO switch is not defined yet. I want to understand in general if it is possible to configure different Etherenet frame sizes in different VLANs on the same hardware switch.
Thanks

In the latest model yes you can have different switch ports have different frame size configurations can be done.
may be clarity I am more talking about MTU.

Cisco SW support two config mode of MTU
per-interface, if your SW support this mode then you can easily config differ MTU for each VLAN SVI
per-SW, if your SW support this mode the it hard to config differ MTU for each VLAN SVI
