DMVPN versus GRE Tunnel

Hello All:

I need to support multicast over a network that has certain locations were multicast isn't supported. I've narrowed it down to 2 options, DMVP or Multicast over a GRE Tunnel.

I have never implemented this type of scenario before, so please bear with me. Have you used either of the above in the past? Which would you say is the most appropriate? Which is 'better'?

I have done GRE tunnels many times and they work well. Each one is good for certain things and which one is best for you depends on knowing what you are trying to achieve. GRE establishes a point to point connection and is very good for hub and spoke implementations. If your multicast source is at HQ and needs to get to certain locations then I would believe that GRE would be a good choice for you. DMVPN builds a mesh network which is very good if your requirements are that every remote site needs to communicate with every other remote site.

So what are your particular requirements?
