Do not see computers connected to the network -- SG200-26 26-Port Gigabit Smart Switch

Hope this is the right forum for the question

I got a new switch
And connected it to my router (home network)
I do not see the computers that are connected to the network

Each computer has Internet access but it is not possible to access shared folders

Something I could do with the old 100 MB switch

I thought that in default settings mode it would work
Do i need to define VLAN Or something else

What IP addresses are you getting on the computers. Also try to ping each computers IP address from the another computer on the same switch and see if they are reachable using IP addresses.

What IP addresses are you getting on the computers ?

I did not understand that question. They have a fixed ip address they get from the router 192.168.1.1-100 .   Is this what you meant

the switch is 192.168.1.10

i have ping Answer from evrey computer to every computer

i cant access them by ip

If you are using windows OS on the computers can you share the output of ipconfig /all on the copmuters, just to make sure your computers are in the same network.
By any chance are you able to connect to the cisco switch using console cable?

I'm sure all computers are on the same network
I checked it first

yes i have access to the switch with console cable

also have  gui access at 192.168.1.10

??

Hello,

what OS are your computers running, Windows ? If your computers have access to the Internet, it sounds to me more like a problem with local permissions and firewalls on the PCs themselves, have you checked that ?

all computers have windows win10, win7, win10, win8.1

one computer have linux

i did not make any Changes in computers settings

as i said if i change the switch to the old one Everything is good and work

with the cisco switch it dont work

Computers have access to the intranet
But that's it
No shared folders

There is also a network printer
That works fine and I can print from all computers without problems

Hello,

try and apply the desktop smartport macro to your interfaces, the ones with PCs attached (page 187 of the attached guide)...

That said, Windows folder sharing requires TCP ports 139 and 445, and UDP ports 137 and 138. Make sure these are not blocked anywhere...

https://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/csbss/sf_sg250/admin_guide/AG_Tesla_250.pdf

I read it and did not understand
What is desktop smartport macro

Too complicated for me

Is there a command or option in the graphical interface
Make the switch work like a simple dumb switch

Where in the graphical interface can I check if these ports are blocked ?

Hello
Where do these shares reside on each pc?
How are you trying to connect to these shares?
Can you ping each computer?
Can you ping each computer from the router?

Can you post the output from a pc:
ipconfig /all

net share
netstat -r
arp -a

When you say fixed ip address , do you mean DHCP or have you manually added the addressing to each pc?

The switch is then not per default has you have configured an ip address correct?

Can you try putting the switch back to defaults and just attach the router and computers to this switch without changing anything on the switch and see if you are then able to connect

Each computer has a library or two (or drive) that can be accessed from other computers

I would go into a network icon to see the computers there
Selects the computer I need
Double Click on the icon of the selected computer and then there the folders appear

similar way in Linux
Goes to the network and then selects a Windows network
Inside are the icons of the various computers
Choose computer
Then the shared folders appear in the computer

I can ping computers from any computer
Also I can do ping to the computer from the router

At first the router distributed addresses
The router has the option to lock the ip address by MAC address
Now there is no way for a computer to get a different address

I have indeed changed the address of the switch to 192.168.1.10
The previous address was 192.168.1.80

When I got the switch I did a reset to default settings
I connected it to the router and that's it
I got an ip address 192.168.1.80
Which I changed to 192.168.1.10
That's it

I have not changed the settings
Because I have no knowledge of the networks

Hello

Thank you for sharing this information and replying to my questions, very much appreciated, Now I am not sure how you are administrating this switch but can you make sure of the following:

  • ip routing isnt enabled
  • ip forward protocol is enabled

So from the cli you do it like this:

conf t

no ip routing
ip forward protocol udp

I do not manage the switch
I'm not a network administrator
I got that switch from a friend for home use Instead of an old switch of 100 MB

If I understood correctly the commands you wrote they are only for one computer
I have to look for the option routing and forward protocol udp in the switch And allow them So that it will be all over the network ?

No its a global command on the switch itself

if you dont manage the switch how did you give a IP address ?

thoses command especially the “ip forward protocol” may be disabled by default on the switch and as such may be negating netbios to be forwarded which you are using when trying  to access those shares hense I am suggesting to make sure its enabled  when your pcs are attached to it
