I'm working on a project and thinking about using Cisco Catalyst 6840-X series, exact model C6824-X-LE-40G switch as a backbone switch.
I need to be able to run OSPF on this switch, but can't find any information on it. All I could find was:
- Data sheet of this model: "This platform also runs on the same architecture as the Cisco Catalyst 6500 Supervisor Engine 2T".
- Data sheet of C6500 Supervisor Engine 2T: "Supervisor Engine 2T features the Multilayer Switch Feature Card 5 (MSFC5), providing high-performance, multilayer switching and routing intelligence. Equipped with a high-performance processor, the MSFC5 runs both Layer 2 protocols and Layer 3 protocols on the dual-core CPU complex. These include routing protocol support, Layer 2 protocols (for example, Spanning Tree Protocol and VLAN Trunking Protocol), and security services."
Not a single word about OSPF anywhere. Anyone know something more?
Thanks,
Dunja

Yes they do support ospf all 6800 series do but you will need an IOS that supports layer 3 protocols it running on it

Hi Dunja,
Did you order any of C6840-X? It seems that they are not orderable yet.
Thanks.

No, I'm working on a project - the network is in the planning stage. I hear it will be available in January 2016 - right in time for implementation ;)
Cheers
