Hi all,
I facing issue with a customer that want to upgrade iOS for Catalyst 3850-48T-L Switch.
Current version: 03.06.06E
upgrade version: 16.09.06.SPA.bin.
Actually I'm curious about downloading iOS without getting service contract.
So is it safe to download cat3k_caa-universalk9.16.09.06.SPA.bin and install in switch just like that
even you dont have contract associated with current switch?
because I afraid it will pop-up some error. It actually happened to me years ago, but I forgot already how I solved this issue

Contact Cisco TAC and organize for an RMA. This is a very well-known issue: CSCvn16574

As of 16.9.2+, Cisco smart licensing is mandatory. If you wish to avoid smart licensing, then you need to remain on nothing newer than the 16.6.x software level.

You can upgrade the firmware without a Service Contract -- If you have the firmware file already.

I don't think this is mainboard hardware issue.
