I am trying to understand how to enable logs on my switch. I know the command "show logs" or "show logging" is meant to provide that functionality, but I need logs from a specific time period specifically the past month. I also would like to understand what these logs actually track because I enabled all logs as shown below but when I check the information there is not what I expect. What I would like to be able to do is see what devices connected to a NAS are dropping connection. I would like to know when its happening and the error that occurs when this drop is experienced. All of the devices are connected to this switch. Is the issue in my understanding of what logs Cisco provides? Or am I not using the right command? Any clarification would be helpful. Thank you.

By default. the switches log in flash and that will get overridden after a short time (depending on the number of logs is being produced). If you want a long-term solution, log everything to a sys log server.

Hello,
I understand that, I have found that the logs in Flash memory are not what I am looking for. Do you know how to see if a port is dropping connection through logs. How often is Flash memory deleted? When the device reboots I'm guessing?

Hi,
I am not familiar with this platform, but with most Cisco switches. the buffer size for logging is limited to a few megabytes, and when that amount of space is full, the switch will overwrite. Also, when the switch reboots all the data logs in the buffer will be gone.
To see if a port dropping connection, you may be able to look at the interface. On the CLI, usually, a "show interface x/x" will show you enough info to start with. Sometimes, it is easier to see that data with charts and graphs, if you are using a management application like SolarWinds.

Hello,
The picture posted above is the Cisco GUI Management portal. From what you said, it seems to me that in order to properly diagnose what is happening on this Cisco switch I need to invest in a 3rd party management portal?
