ESS9300 Main Board LED behavior at Bootup

We have noticed that our ESS9300 Embedded Series Switches have erratic behavior for the LEDs at power up. We use other Cisco products (ESS3300, ESR6300) that do not exhibit this behavior. The behavior seems to change once the unit has fully booted. If you plug an SFP into one of the fully functional ports that randomly exhibited dim LED behavior at power up, the link LEDs will illuminate at a consistently bright level. This is a problem for us, since we check the LEDs at power up using a test fixture and light sensors, and we are randomly failing the LED test at that point.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

the ESS embeded switch connects to a  carrier module that provides the RJ45 connector and LED's

do you use the same carrier module for both types of switches? (what brand/type?)
if yes have you checked compatibility? maybe you need a different carrier module?
