ESX Failover NIC Issues

We have a 4 node ESX4.1 cluster with primary NIC going to a catalyst 2960G and secondary NIC going to another catalyst 2960G.  The switches are connected via etherchannel.  The primary switch is root for all vlans and the ESX ports are configured as trunks.  However, we had a primary NIC go bad today, but none of the clients could see the VM's. We verified the NIC failed over correctly.  Could this be a STP issue?

Thanks

Since you have 2 2960s connected via an Etherchannel, so I am assuming they are not stacked right?

MEC (Multichassis Etherchannel) is only supported in VSS environment where 2 6500 logically form one switch and also in 3750 and 2960 switches when they are stacked.  .Are the 2 NICs connected to these 2960s are in an Etherchannel?
