Dear CISCO Team,
I am trying to configuring Ether-Channel between gigabit and fastethernet ports but channel couldn't formed. Can I create Ether-Channel between fastethernet and gigabitehrnet ports?
Kind Regards'

Rule #1 with EtherChannel: All ports must be of the same speed.

Dear Leo,
Thanks for the reply.
Please let me know, what if I set manually speed to 100 on gigabit interface. are they working on not?

Setting the speed to 100 on the GigabitEthernet interface and then configuring the port channel with the FastEthernet interface would work, however, you sacrifice 900MB on the Gigabit interface to gain 100 on the port channel, which probably is not a good idea...

Dear gpauwen,
Thanks for the reply.
It is an obvious that cutting 900 MB is not a good idea, actually on the other side I have only fast Ethernet switch & traffic is exceeding from 100 MB. That's why I have to create ether-channel to overcome this issue. We are soon update switch to gigabit but until I have to use ether-channel.

Hello,
sorry for that, I didn't want to sound wisecracky. I could have figured out that you have a FastEthernet switch on the other side, and that is why you asked the question. My apologies...;). In these forums, where you don't actually communicate directly, it is kind of good practice to point out everything, even the obvious...

HI.
No need to sorry. It was my mistake that I didn't mentioned all the things clearly.
My problem has been solved. There is no need to set speed manually on either switches. Ether-Channel has formed on auto speed.

Good to hear ! Good luck with the migration down the road...

Will it work? Yes and no.
Sure, setting the port to 100 Mbps will get EtherChannel up, HOWEVER, watch out for CRC & FCS errors on the line. This is always the case when speed is configured incorrectly.
What kind of link are they? Copper or fibre optics?
We are soon update switch to gigabit but until I have to use ether-channel.
Another thing, I get cynical with this. Once the link goes up and everyone stops complaining, the promise to upgrade will soon be long forgotten. Just my 2 cents.
