Facing issue duplex setting

Hi,

Our LAN consists of cisco 2960 24TTL-48TTL model series as access switches. when configuring speed and duplex for ports the following issues we are facing 1. we have configuring trunk ports of ACcess switches with speed and duplex and its respective distribution swcth port also configured with sped and duplex . the we see switch trunk port is getting down and we have to set auto negotiation on either access switch or distribution swicth then the ports are coming up , 2. if we configure speed and duplex only on access swicth or distribution swicth . ports are not getting down but errors are observed on the trunk ports 3.when it comes to access ports we have configured speed and duplex on access ports of the access swicth . users are complyining slowness and input CRC errors are seen on access ports as well . to troubleshoot this.

Why cant you use auto negotiation at both ends instead of hardcode.

hi,

regarding problem 1:

some switches disable auto-midx when you hardcode the speed and duplex.

so check the cable you are using and try it with a cross-over.

problem 2:

if you only hardcode one site then you might get a duplex missmatch and thus the error count is increasing.

always set both sites to auto or hardcode both sites.

problem 3:

are only the switch ports hardcoded or the nic´s of the pc´s too?
