I have 2 FEX (N2K-C2248TP-E-1GE) that are connected to a pair of distribution 5548's in remote rack that I want to migrate to a new pair of distribution 5548's in the local rack.
I'd like to minimize the downtime while the FEX modules are migrated.
Does the FEX have to reboot in order to be connected to a new switches?
Can I pre-configure the switchport configurations from the existing switch if the FEX isn't connected yet?
TIA,
Chris Callison

There is no need to reboot the FEX to connect it to a new switch.
You can pre-configure the new parent switches. After connecting the FEX to them, they should just come online if everything is configured correctly.
If you do all the pre-configs, testing and cabling ahead of time, the migration should not take long.

Hi Reza,
i am quite not sure we can preconfigure fex HIF ports until switch discovers the fex?
Have you done it before?
Also if the new switch IOS is different than the old one, fex will take a few minutes dowload the IOS to it before coming online(eventually i think its a reload of fex)
Thanks,
Madhu
