Feature Navigator - explain unique feature

What does "unique feature" mean in Cisco Feature Navigator?

For example "DHCP snooping" is unique feature for IOS 12.2(58)SE2 when comparing to 15.0(2)SE6. Does that mean "DHCP snooping" is not part of 15.0(2)SE6?

Platform is Catalyst 3750 and same feature set (IP services).

See attachment for better understanding.

No, unique features are the features that were added to the list of features in that version.

5.0(2)SE6 provides 17 additional features to what is already in 12.2(58)SE2.

Hi Reza

Personally I have never trusted a lot of what Feature Navigator is telling me.

For a start "Features unique to this image" definitely suggests it is in one image and not the other although a quick check of the configuration guides shows DHCP snooping is supported in both.

I would have thought "Features introduced in this image" would have made a lot more sense.

Either way what is the point of comparing images if it does not show you the differences in what is supported and what isn't.

And if you look at the attached jpg it is showing EIGRP as a unique feature for 12.2(58) but another quick check of the configuration guides shows it has been supported a lot earlier than that.

Whenever I use it I always come away no more sure of what is and isn't supported which is usually why I always go through the configuration guides.

Sorry about the rant, I just wish it was a more useful tool or perhaps it is and I simply don't understand it well enough.

If you do please explain how it all works :)

Jon

Hi Jon,

I completely agree with you.  This is not a very good tool. I never trust it a 100%, hard to use, not intuitive and confusing.  I was just trying to say that the features that are added in the 15.0(2)SE6 are new but that does not mean that the other features like "DHCP snooping" has been taken out of this image. This is how I understand it.  I could completely be wrong. I am not sure why Cisco makes tools that are so hard to understand and interpret. This tools has been out there for such a long time now and you would think they add enhancement to it so it it easier to understand :)

Thanks,

Reza

Hi Reza

Yes, sorry, none of what I said was directed at you :)
