Firmware Update X4510 SUP7E

Hi Community,

the following scenario:
LAN Switch X4510 with two SUP7E Supervisor Engines in redundant Mode (hot stdby, SSO)
actual Firmware is V15.0 (1r) SG2
I plan an update to V15.0 (1r) SG10, newest Firmwareversion for the SUP7E

Question:
It's possible to update without downtime (redundant Engines) direct to the newest Version
or via a step to a lower version as SG10 maybe V15.0 (1r) SG5 or it is unpossible without
downtime?

Tx Hajo

Hello Hajo,

There is an option available that will help you minimize influence on the network, it is
called ISSU.

"The Cisco Catalyst 4500E Series was designed for excellent nonstop communications with
noninterrupted hardware switching. With Cisco IO XE Software, customers continue to reap
the benefit of this best-in-class resiliency in various ways.
ISSU allows you to upgrade or downgrade complete Cisco IOS Software images with minimal
(less than 200 msec) to no disruption to the network when using a redundant Cisco Catalyst
4500E Series system with dual Supervisor Engines 7-E. Facilitating rapid, nondisruptive
software upgrade for new line cards, new power supplies, new features, or bug fixes, ISSU
offers continuous packet forwarding during the supervisor-engine switchover running
different Cisco IOS Software releases."

Please also have a look at the ISSU procedure and its requirements.
