Hi Friends,
I have a 4507E Switch with 4306-GB GBIC Module. The Edge Switches are connected to this Distribution Switch. I have installed 1 new switch now (3750-TS 10/100), located in the nearest floor(< 50Mtr) I would like to connect the switch using UTP uplink. On the Distribution switch I am using 1000BaseT convertor to convert GBIC to UTP.
The port on 3750 is 10/100 only, and the GBIC is 1 Gig in speed. I connect the cable but the link is not comng up. Dont have any option to set the speed and duplex on the GBIC.
What i can do in this case? How to make the link UP? Can i connect like this?
regards

You'll need to use a 3750's SFP port. If you want to use copper, then use the 1000BASE-T SFP. (You may need to hard code speed on the 3750 gig port.)

Dear Joseph,
In that case also i am forced to procure again a SFP to 1000BaseT convertor. There is no other way other than this? we can not do any thing on the GBIC side of the 4507 to makemit backward compatible right?

Believe that's the case.
If you had a 3750G, you could use one of its 10/100/1000 copper ports, but with a 3750, only the SFP ports support gig.
If you had a different 4500 card than your 4306, that had copper ports (e.g. 4124, 4148), you could connect to one (or more, Etherchannel?) 3750 10/100 port.
To minimize the procurement of GBIC and SFP copper converters, you could consider using one (or more?) 3750s as aggregation/distribtion switches. For instance, have a 3750 connected to the 4500 via the gig uplink, and multiple 3750s connected to that 3750 across copper 10/100 links. (Keep in mind, you could off-load L2 and L3 to such a "distribution" switch. Further, keep in mind, [I believe] non-G 3750s will support wire speed, all ports. You could "share" a 3750 in the access and distribtion role.)

Dear Joseph,
Exactly what i am planing the same now, i will have to connect the 3750 to an existing switch on Copper, which has a Gbic connection to the Distribution Switch as of now.
I hve a 4424GB Module on another switch 4507R, as of now this switch (3750) is connected on an Etherchannel to that switch, but that is the considered core for me where i will connect the whole Servers. i dont want to mess and collpase the Distribution and the Core on that switch, thats why.
Thanks a lot for the support Joseph.
regards
Jacob
