GigabitEthernet port stays down

Hi,

I'm configuring a 2911 router and I was configuring the GE ports and they always stay down even when using the no shutdown command. How do I bring them up?

Thank you

Hi,

What does the port connects to?  Does the other device the the 2911 connects to support Gig?

HTH

The router is connected to 1941w routers which also have GigabitEthernet ports.

Are the interfaces down on the physical layer (down/down) or down on the data-link layer (up/down)?

Hello,

not sure if somebody mentioned this already, but you need a crossover cable to connect two routers (wires 1 and 3, and 2 and 6 crossed).

Have a look at the link below:

What Georg suggested as the cause of the problem, is most likely the problem.

If you don't have a cross-over cable, but you have two straight through cables and a switch (or hub) you could interconnect the routers that way too.

Joe,

ISR G2 ports are MDI/MDI-X (unless this feature is disabled by hard coding the speed & duplex).

Ah, in that case, unless the feature has been disabled, either a cross over or straight through cable should work.

OK, do you see any link light?

Have you checked/replaced the cable?
