Help | Multicast delay in receiving the data at random intervals

Hello Experts,

I am facing an multicast issue.

We have Inter VRF PIM DENSE mode configure and we have Cisco 6500 series switches

Topology is like

Sender >>> Access switch 01 >>> Core >>>> Access Switch 02 >>>> receiver.

Below is the issue.

1. When receiver  joined  the multicast group for the first time it receives the stream in 5 to 7 seconds.

2. When the same receiver leave the multicast group, and again join the group, stream received after around 2.5 minutes

3. When receiver again leave the multicast group, again join the group, stream received after 20 seconds.

It is happening in random intervals.

We have to wait 3 minutes to more in order to accomplished point 1.

So far I have checked

1. Unicast routing ( its symmetric )

2. No COPP policy applied on control plane

3. No QoS configured.

4. No MTU issue

5. No application issue as customer tried to get this checked on test set up ( Cisco 9300) , it worked fine .

6. Checked TTL values , its good as well ( TTL value set as 20 ).

What else I can check to resolve this issue.

Hello @GauravDhiman ,

can you explain how you have configured  inter VRF  PIM dense mode on the Catalyst 6500 ?

is MP BGP address family mdt involved ?

Hope to help

Giuseppe

Hi Giuseppe,

VRFs configured as a VRF lite only. No MP BGP is configured.

Switches are running on Deferred IOS 15.1 , and due to production crunch we cannot upgrade the switches to recommended version.

Can you please help to advise next steps of troubleshooting.

Thank you advance.

Hi All,

I checked switch configuration on below switches

1. edge01 ( where source is connected)

2. Core

3. Edge02 ( where receiver is conencted )

All have same configuration related to STP

refer below

spanning-tree mode rapid-pvst
spanning-tree portfast edge bpduguard default

on interfaces

!
interface GigabitEthernet1/1/25
description
switchport
switchport access vlan 110
switchport mode access
no cdp enable
spanning-tree portfast edge
spanning-tree bpdufilter enable
!

Will it cause delay in receiving the traffic , as both BPDUguard enable on global level and BPDUfilter on interface level.

Can we try by removing BPDUfilter on interface level ?
