HELP to upgrade IOS of C4506 // Supervisor II+ ( WS-X4013+ )

Hi,

I want upgrading the IOS for a WS-C4506, The problem I am having is that there is not enough space to copy the new IOS to flash without deleting the original IOS first.

Can you please recommend a rollback plan if the Switch fail to boot with the new IOS after I delete the original IOS?

Hi,

Usually, the flash has space for multiple IOS versions unless you are going from a very old version to a new one which is a much larger file.

Can you post the output of "dir"

Also, what IOS are you planning to load?

Did you read the Release Notes?  Pay close attention to current ROMmon version and what is recommended (HERE).

Hi,

Effectively, I have to delete the old IOS to copy the new

but my question is: there is a rollback plan if the Switch fail to boot with the new IOS after I delete the original IOS?

1. Delete the old IOS;
2. Copy the new IOS into the line card;
3. Compare the MD5 hash value of the file (new IOS) against the MD5 value found in the Cisco website. The MD5 hash value must match in order to proceed.
4. Save the config.
5. Reboot.

@leo : Thank you for your reply
So, i think you do not fully understand my question
This switch is very critical
I want that you recommend to me a rollback plan if the Switch fail to boot with the new IOS after I delete the original IOS.
Or, a fast solution in case of a problem during the upgrade ( less downtime )

There is no rollback "plan".

There is no space in the flash to store two (or more) IOS files.

This is why I've provided all the necessary step to ensure the IOS is not corrupt.

I think you'll need to factor in the age of the line cards.  Have you planned what will happen if one (or more) line cards fail during the reboot?

NOTE:  The last time I've used a 4013+ was back in 2007.
