Hello -
I have 1 existing 2960s switch (15.0(2a)SE9) in prod and I want to create a stack by adding a 2960x 15.2(2)E7.
1 - What is the process to do so? I have read that you need to change the Stack Speed and to adjust the SDM Template for the 2960x to be able to join a 2960s?
You need to run -
switch stack port-speed 10
sdm prefer default
Do you execute this on the 2960x PRIOR to adding to stack? Not sure where this command get run?
2 - Can you insert the Stack module into the 2960s in prod impacting service?
3 - If the IOS on the 2960s is newer then the 2960x, can you add to the stack and will the IOS on the 2960x get upgraded during
the stacking process?
4 - If the 2960s will not upgrade the 2960x can you create the stack and run (assuming SW1 is the Master) -
#archive copy-sw /destination-system 2 1
5 - Can you cable the stack without impacting service?
Thanks for your feedback.

Hello
The two switches will require the same ios feature set (LAN Base) and flex stack modules to be viable for stacking, Once the 2960x switch has the same ios etc.. you can just provision the 2960s for the 2960x.
2960S example:
conf t
switch 2 provision ws-c2960x-xxxx
switch 1 priority 15
switch 2 priority 11
lastly with the "new" 2960x switch powered down attach the flex-stack cabling between the two switch's and then power up the 2960x

Hi Paul Thanks for the reply.
So I am clear -
1 - If the 2960s is running IOS 15.0(2a)SE9; we should downgrade the 2960x (15.2.2E7) to IOS 15.0.2a-EX5 to match the 2960s?
OR will the Master push down the IOS it is running to the new member when it is added to the stack?
If no, then we need to upgrade the existing stack 2960s to anOS matching the 2960x?
Deployment would look like this aside from the above activities -
1 - On new member switch run cmd -
conf t switch 2 provision ws-c2960x-48fps-l
switch 1 priority 15
switch 2 priority 11
2 - Power Off new stack member
3 - Connect the new member to the Cisco stack using the stacking cables, 1 loop at a time.
4 - Power on the new stack member.
5 - Validate new member has been added
Thanks!
Richard

Hello!
Thanks! Do I need to run the following on the 2960x as well to adjust for the 2960s Stack Speed (switch stack port-speed 10) and adjust for the default SDM template on the 2960x?
Thanks,
