What do I need to know about replacing a failed 3560G switch with an identical switch? I have a grasp on how to replace a 3750g considering how easy it is with the 3750 being stacked, but I really don't know where to start in terms of replacing a 3560.

As the other posters have noted, if you have a current backup of the prior 3560's config, you would just insure a current config is erased, and then load the backup config.

As Paul noted, you need to be careful if using VTP.  If using client or server modes, before adding configured device to your network, set VTP to transparent and then set it to to prior client or server mode after adding it to your network.

PS:

If you don't have a backup config, you'll need to reconfigure everything by hand

Hi Charles.
If you have a good backup of switch config,
Just copy it in flash and reboot the switch.
This should be enough.

Hello

What role is the switch acting as - Vtp server/stp root?

If this is a vtp server then you need to transfer its role over to another switch then before its attached to the network - Apply its VTP configuration also MINUS its vtp mode , have this set to transparent and when the new switch has been attached to the network change its mode over to as it was as per old switch

Stp root-Again transfer its role over to another switch which is running as a secondary root, if you don't have a secondary root switch create on before you remove the okl switch.

Apply the old config with a higher priority as the secondary and when it attached and you happy with it attachment then promote back to stp root

If the old switch has failed whilst in production then I assume all above would have been set anyway as per redundancy sla then neither of the above is applicable and you should be okay -but I still would have the vtp mode of the new switch set to transparent in any scenario when attaching a new switch to an existing LAN
