We are using a CISCO catalyst switch 3850 series with 16.1 S/W version. Now i am aware of the bug related memory issue for that version. However, we do not have option for S/W upgrade.
Ran show processes memory sorted and output shows most of the memory is hold by *init* process.
Now what I am looking for, is a way to reduce the memory holding by this process? If reduces will there be any issue with system initialization process?
Please help
Thanks

if you know its bug, upgrade is best option, since you mentioned upgrade is not possible (not sure the reason)
then you reload the switch and monitor again. or post complet out of memory usase so we can suggest best if we can where possible.
show platform software process list switch active R0 sort memory
show platform software status control-processor brief
show processes memory sorted allocated
show platform resources
show process memory platform

The steps or commands that I am looking for is, how can I reduce the memory holding of a *init* process? and will it effect any performance in the switch?

If an upgrade is not possible then reboot the switch.
16.1.X is not a stable IOS version.

You cannot reduce, either a reload or upgrade will help with it.
If you choose to reload and it's a bug after some time you will have the same issue.
If you upgrade it's a permanent solution. Also do post the outputs that balaji requested for further analysis.

Until we see some information what causing the issue, how one can expect the outcome ?
if you give information(asked) along with show run - we try to help - or as suggested in the past post - reboot and wait for memeory to grow.
when you get chance upgrade.,

Read this very carefully: Cisco IOS XE Software for Cisco 5760 WLC, Cisco Catalyst 4500E Supervisor Engine 8-E, and Cisco NGWC 3850 GUI Privilege Escalation Vulnerability
Scroll down to the Customers Without Service Contracts section.
Customers who purchase directly from Cisco but do not hold a Cisco service contract and customers who make purchases through third-party vendors but are unsuccessful in obtaining fixed software through their point of sale should obtain upgrades by contacting the Cisco TAC.
Customers should have the product serial number available and be prepared to provide the URL of this advisory as evidence of entitlement to a free upgrade.

You can upgrade to latest cisco recommended IOS to avoid any memory bugs.
