Hostname change

Pls can I change the hostname of a switch while in production? What will be the impact? Thanks

As far as layer 2 forwarding is concerned I agree with Satish that there is no impact from changing the host name. There are some other aspects which may or may not impact depending on your particular situation. If you have the switch configured for SSH (which requires RSA keys) changing the host name will invalidate the RSA keys and SSH will not work until you regenerate the keys. If you have the switch defined in DNS then you should update the DNS. If you have any network monitoring or reporting set up using device names then you probably need to make some adjustments there. But as far as traffic forwarding in your network is concerned there should be no impact from changing the host name of a switch.
