I need to know how can I up load a IOS that is on a CD to a router 1700 series

Hi,

Can you telnet to the router ? If yes then all you have to do is to run a tftp server on a PC, copy the IOS into its root, and upload the IOS via tftp to the router.

If you don't have a tftp server, you can use any of these free ones:

On the router do "copy tftp: flash:"

If you have a CF (Compact Flash) card reader you can just pop the card into the reader and copy the IOS from CD to the CF card -once done just pop the CF card into the router (Before doing so do remember to delete the original IOS or- save it somewhere else)... It's far easier and alot less hassle that way- i can never understand why people try to complicate things when they don't need to.. copying via TFTT/FTP is recommended if you dont have a CF card reader.. Everyone has one now.

The original poster was asking about Cisco 1700, and non of the 1700 have an external flash, plus please make sure to review the following:

Didn't realise, i did do a google search but it obviously didn't come up with the correct data for the 1700. As Mohammed said, you can only copy by using the TFTP/FTP command.

If you get an error message saying "out of space" (or somewhere along that line)- you have to delete the currently installed image by using the following command (Specify the file name instead if the stated 'filename.bin' statement). You can find out what the current file name of the IOS by doing the following: show flash.

Router#delete filename.bin
