How configure alert via mail for interface shutdown

Hi, I need to configure on a switch 6509 with IOS 12.2(18)SXF8, alert when a interface goes to down or up state, and this alert sending them via mail.

There are Embedded Event Manager but they are only tested in 1800, 2800, and 3800 ISRs http://forums.cisco.com/eforum/servlet/EEM?page=main

Else, try SNMP-TRAP. You will need an application that receive SNMP-TRAP messages and send the alert via email.
