How to add new 2960S switch to existing stack?

Hi Expert,

We already have a stack switch (with two 2960s switch), we want to add new 2960s to it.

I search some document in cisco.com, it's said we only need to disconnect old stack cable and then re-connect the new stack cable at all.

And then the new switch can be added existing switch automatically.

But it doesn't mention specific steps, just like the IOS version of new switch, the config of new switch  etc..

Since I don't have a lot of experience of this case. so i have there question as below,

1. is it necessary to upgrade new 2960 switch IOS to the same version with the existing stack switch?  

2. is it necessary to make same config with existing stack switch in new 2960 switch before I connect it to existing stack?

Here is the config of our existing stack switch:

1.  Make sure your new stack member has the same IOS as the rest of the stack; 

2.  Power down the new stack member;

3.  Attach at least one stacking cable to the new stack member; 

4.  Power on the stack member; and

5.  Connect the 2nd stacking cable.

I have another question is:

I don't need to do anything config on the new switch, I just need to upgrade the new switch's IOS version as the existing stack.

After doing above task, I connect all stack cable and power cord as you said, and then the new switch can be synchronized with the MASTER switch. right??

Correct.  Upgrade using the command "archive download-sw" instead copying the BIN files.

Correct.  The new switch should NOT have any configuration.  This includes VLAN.dat file.
