Hi,

I would like to configure a Cisco 1924 switch as a manageable switch so that I can access it remotely using telnet, but I am not able to enable the telnet  feature on that switch. Can anyone suggest how do I enable the telnet on 1924 switch?

Thanks

first I would like to advise against telnet its not protected and passwords can be sniffed out , you should use a K9 image and use ssh version 2

If its only capable of telnet check this doc it explains how

Hi Mark,

I know that how to enable telnet on cisco devices. Its just that in 1900 series as its very old switch, there is no vty option ahead of line keyword.

And now the console of the switch is also not happening. I am now unable to take the console of the switch.

The console output is shown below

Hey from what I remember these switches don't have a vty port , you set an ip and password and that's it you should be able to telnet to it once you can reach the ip set on it

Regarding the console if that's not working the switch is useless and you cant fix a console port whenever they go the switch needs to be rma which obviously is not possible with something so old , what do you mean by you are unable to take the console off the switch ?

It is stuck in choosing the K or M as you can see in the previous post of mine, after I press K for command line, nothing is happening, while earlier it used to take me to the command line interface.

You could try factory reset it see if that fixes the console issue other than that switch could be just gone its very old they go for like 20 dollars on ebay

Hello,

These are small end switches which were bit smart to Hubs, if you have configured ip address globally on these switches then that should be fine to take for management purpose.

and make sure that these are also configured with default gateway for having connectivity with different subnet.

what is the output of show ip on this switch.

and make sure gateway configured is reachable from that switch.

Hope it Help.
