Hello Everyone,
I have a doubt. In my environement I have two Switch 3750-X in stack.
My question is:
How to shutdown remotely only a switch in stack?
Best Regards.

Hi Ranganath,
If possible, can you pass a "thank you" to the 3750X BU and/or developer for putting this command in?
You have no idea the dirty thoughts swirling in my mind about this feature. I can't wait to get my hands on a stack of 3750E/3750X.
I wonder if this command works for 2960S.

Hi Leolaohoo,
I understand, this feature is surely something that we can make use of - for our purpose to shutdown a switch remotely . We need to get a much detailed understand of this command's functionality and its consequences and hopefully should not have any other adverse effects. So, we should actually ask the BU to give us more information and get this documented somewhere.. if its found useful..
Appreciate your feedback.
Regards,
Ranganath

Yes Reza, it will basically isolate the switch from stack. I tried in a standalone switch which is having a FRU with power supply on/off command. It reloads the switch. So there is a mechanism which turns on the FRU even though we turned it off from the CLI. So we need to remove the power cable from the switch in order to power off the switch completely which is not possible if we are at remote end.
So the only option we have is to disable and enable the stack ports in which we have control from the master switch.
Still i would suggest to hold a physical access to the device when troubleshooting stack issues.
We will definetly take this up wih BU for future enhancement.
Hope this helps
Cheers

Hi,
It is documented here.
The power supply command applies to a Catalyst 3560-E switch, a Catalyst 3750-E standalone switch, or a switch stack with only Catalyst 3750-E switches.
In a switch stack with only Catalyst 3750-E switches, you must specify the stack member before entering the off or on keywords.
The no power supply user EXEC command is not supported. To return to the default setting, use the power supply switch-number on command.
This example shows how to set the power supply of a stack member in a switch stack to off:
Switch> power supply 2 off
This example shows how to set the power supply of a switch to on:
Switch> power supply on
This example shows how to set the power supply of a stack member in a switch stack to off:
Switch> power supply 2 off
This example shows how to set the power supply of a switch to on:
Switch> power supply on
You can verify your settings by entering the show env power privileged EXEC command.
Cheers

Hi,
I don't have a stack of them to test it on just one. So the question is, is this command only useful in a stack environment, because as I mentioned above on a single 3750e the power turns on by itself after a couple of minutes.

Hi,
I just came across this discussion about turning off a switch remotely, and I was wondering if there is a way to put a switch into password recovery mode remotely. This way it would be possible to deal with password recovery issues without having to go to the physical location where the switches are.
In fact, I have found that the Catalyst 2955 series switches do not use an external mode button for password recovery, but instead the use a break sequence as routers do for this:
So the question is if you know any command or break sequence that gets a switch into the switch: prompt that applies to other kind of switches, like Catalyst 2960, 3560 or 3750.

We can only shut down the switch with these remote commands if the switch is a part of the stack fully, by which I mean it is not stuck in init .
