how to: Subnneting / VLANs on Different Subnet Mask ?

MOI

 Hello,

I have a small Lab with the following devices:

1. Windows Server - VLAN1

2. Linux Server - VLAN2

3. Switch sg300-10pp 10port PoE (Layer3)

4. Tp-Link Router VLAN3

Subnneting as below :

Vlan1 14 14 192.168.1.0 /28 255.255.255.240 192.168.1.1 - 192.168.1.14 192.168.1.15
Vlan2 6 6 192.168.1.16 /29 255.255.255.248 192.168.1.17 - 192.168.1.22 192.168.1.23

Vlan3

Trunk Port

direct access to router

2 2 192.168.1.24 /30 255.255.255.252 192.168.1.25 - 192.168.1.26 192.168.1.27

The question is: Can I create VLANs as above on diffrent subnetting mask ?

 How I can routing traffic to VLAN3/Router !? ex: 0.0.0.0/0 nexthop 192.168.1.26

* By the way I have basic information about networks.

Regards.

Hello

Can you confirm -
Do you have:

  1. routing enabled on the L3 switch
  2. Created the L2 vlans on the L3 switch
  3. Static routes towards your vlans and default route towards your ISP on the rtr
  4. Nat enabled on the rtr for your internal networks

Does your router know how to reach back your vlans? Is there any static routes in your router?

Thanks

Hi

Yes you can create those vlans on your switch with the SVI associated to each vlan.

By default, when you have multiple svi, routing between them is done.

Now, vlan 3 will be your interconnect subnet between your switch and router.

Then on your switch (SG300) you need to add a default route. here an example in cli:

ip route 0.0.0.0/0 192.168.1.26

Every vlan after that, are able to access internet. You need to make sure that your router is natting all your subnets

Hi Francesco Molino,

Good Day,
First of all many thanks you for reply,

Unfortunately I have spent 4 hours of my time without getting a solution! each VLANs communicating with other successfully but stile unable to reach internet, only VLAN1 interfaces access to internet,

from my switch (L3) its self I try to ping router IP which is 192.168.1.241/28 from sources IPs VLAN2 & 4 still same issue (100% packets lost).

My attempts were:

1. I tried to used new subnetting to unify the mask for all subnet.

2. firmware upgraded & startup configurations erased for several times!

3. router DHCP disabled.

Your help will meet great & high appreciating!

Thanks!

I am thinking your router probably does not have a route back to your VLANs 2 and 4, only to VLAN1, as it has an IP address in it itself. can you check. ping from router to an IP address in vlan 2 and 4

Keep it simple and stick with all /24 if you are not strapped for IP addresses

After effort and try to understand, finally .. I found the solution! It is related to the static routing of the router! because the router does not know the indirect networks.

Steps to solve this issue for those who facing same situation in the future:

1.Assign IP for VLAN interface

2.Add default route to IP4 Routing from the switch e.x: 0.0.0.0/0 nexthop (Router IP)

3.From the router Add Static Routing to Interface (192.168.1.54) which directly connected to the router.

Thanks to God!, Thanks to everyone who helped me here!

My greetings!

Static Routing
