Hello Team
I am using Cat 4506 chassis with Sup-6E and planning to add redundancy in the setup with New 4506 chassis.
Now the challenge is SUP 6E is end of sale and i need to go ahead with Sup 7E .
just wanted to confirm if both these different Sup engines ( one supports normal IOS while the new sup cards supports XE image) will inter operate withe each other for the redundancy configuration.
please confirm if anyone has tested the same in practical scenario.

Hi!
If you refer to the fact that they will be able to work using HSRP, yes they will with no problems but if you mean putting those 2 supervisors in the same chassis then no, it will not work.
Hope it helps, best regards!

Hello
So two different chassis with different SUp engines ( 6l-e in one chassis and 7l-e in another chassis) can run hsrp.
Any reference document we have which customer can refer before going for new purchase.
Thanks

Hi!
Sure, please refer to the section HSRP after the VERIFICATION section in the following link:
http://www.bradreese.com/how-to/4500-power-supplies.pdf
HSRP is an application protocol in the TCP/IP model so any device running the protocol should be able to form a relation.
Hope it helps, best regards!

As Carlos has already noted, they should be able to interoperate using HSRP. However, do insure they are running the same version and flavor of HSRP. I would expect any two Cisco devices that support HSRP version 1 to interoperate. HSRP version 2 and/or mHSRP isn't supported on some Cisco device IOS versions.
