hsrp preempt command

Hi all, if I have 2 routers, 1 pri and the other secondary, if the primary fails and r2 becomes active, if the primary comes back, will it not fail back to the primary unless I use the preempt keyword? do I need to configure this on both or only 1 router ?

Hi,

It is enough to configure on the primary. it basically tells the primary to takeover the role (primary) when it come back onlne.

This command is only required on the router with the highest priority (primary).
