IE 2000U Express Setup issue - no login screen

I have the instructions, but switch login screen doesn't come up. I have it connected to my laptop thru a USB/ENET adapter. I tried it both with that laptop port set to a static IP and subnet mask, and also with the port set to automatically assign IP. But same results. When I launch browser, I just get my home page, no Cisco login screen. Reset the switch a few times and retried. No luck. I'm running Win7 Pro with IE11 browser. Can anyone let me know what my network setting should be for the laptop port? Also........... the setup manual refers to "Setup" LED, but the IE2000 U has no LED labeled "Setup". "USB", "EXP", and "SYS". Thanks!

Hello,

are you trying the initial setup ? You need to connect an Ethernet cable to one of the downlink switch ports and set your laptop to DHCP. That should lauch the Express Setup window. According to the instructions, pop up blockers should be disabled...

As I understand it, you cannot use the USB port for the initial Express setup.

By the way, to use the USB port the Cisco Microsoft USB device driver needs to be installed on your laptop:

Hi gpauwen. Thanks for the response. Here's more detail: Yes, I am trying to do initial setup. I do not assume the switch is at default, so I reset it first, by pressing and holding the Express Setup button at least 10 seconds immediately after power up. Then I wait until the startup sequence finishes and the System LED is on solid. (So I have to assume the switch is defaulted at this point, no other feedback mechanism.)

Now, here's my connection to my laptop............. my one ENET port is connected to the external network and is DHCP. For the Cisco switch, I will use a Startech USB/ENET adapter connected to one of my laptop USB ports, turning it in to a virtual ENET port. I am not trying to use the Cisco switch USB Console port. This virtual port is DHCP. (NOTE: I have successfully used this USB/ENET adapter for other ENET devices on my laptop, so I know it works.)

Back to my issue............. now that Cisco switch System LED is on solid, I press Express Setup for a few seconds. Port 1 LED flashes green as it should. I plug the ENET cable from that port to my laptop virtual port. Green still flashing on Cisco. I open my browser. I just get the homepage coming up, no login screen. Help!!!!

"my one ENET port is connected to the external network and is DHCP" --> just to be sure, your ENET port needs to be connected to one of the LAN ports, not the uplink port. LAN ports are in the row of 4 ports.

The one hard wired ENET port on my laptop is connected to my company intranet. The ENET port (USB/ENET adapter) that I'm using to try to set up the Cisco switch is DHCP. I connected that port to the Cisco uplink port which blinks green when pressing the Express Setup button, which was Port 1. This is in publication OL-16234-01, Cisco IE 2000 Switch Getting Started Guide. Does not give me login screen when browser launches.

So I tried your suggestion and used each of the 4 LAN ports on my 20 port switch. When plugged in, the LAN port LED on the Cisco did blink green. But as before, opening browser just gave me my home page.

I pressed and held Express Setup switch for > 10 seconds at power up, per that publication, to set it to factory defaults. The only thing I can think of is its not being defaulted and may already have an IP. Thoughts?

A quick thought: try and disable the wireless adapter on your laptop (provided you have one of course)...

I disabled my laptop wireless. Same result.

I also did both steps of default reset:

Step 1 Press and hold the Express Setup button for 10 seconds or more. The switch reboots. The system LED turns green after the switch completes rebooting.

Step 2 Press the Express Setup button again for 3 seconds. A switch 10/100 Ethernet port blinks green.

When you do the 3 second press, Port 1 blinks green. That is when I connect the switch to my laptop. Wait for green blinking to stabilize. Then open browser. I just see my homepage.

Going to try to take a look using the CONSOLE port. Be right back.

Just to make sure that the pop up blocker in IE 11 is not activated:

To turn Pop-up Blocker on or off

Open Internet Explorer, select the Tools button , and then select Internet options.
On the Privacy tab, under Pop-up Blocker, select or clear the Turn on Pop-up Blocker check box, and then select OK.

Found what's the issue! There was an SD card installed in this switch. So it wasn't right out of the box like I thought. That said, SYS LED blinks on power up, and that's about all. Pressing Express Setup doesn't cause a port LED to flash. I'm wondering if the switch is bricked??? Hope not!

All right, that explains it ! Still, with the SD card removed, the reset to factory default should work as you have done it before...

Where did you get the switch anyway ?

Thanks for the link. I got some info from the switch over its CONSOLE PORT. See the attachment. "The BOOT environment variable needs to be set to a bootable image." Thoughts? thanks!

Hello,

hopefully, there is a bootable image in flash. You need to access the boot loader,use the following procedure:

To access the boot loader, follow these steps:

Step 1 Press and hold the Express Setup button while the switch is powering on.

Step 2 Release the Express Setup button when the LEDs (System, Alarm, and Setup) turn red.
The LEDs turn off.

Step 3 Press and hold the Express Setup button again.

Step 4 Release the Express Setup button when the LEDs turn red again.

After that, issue the command 'dir: flash' to check what files are in flash.

Then use the 'boot: flash:' command followed by the image file name to boot the switch.

Reinstalled SD card. What I get out of console port is useless. See 1st screenshot in attachment. But.... switch does more than just sit there with "SYS" LED flashing. There's a definite start up sequence based on the LED pattern I see. And SYS LED ends up solid green, which I believe is correct.
