Replying to self as correction: 3rd switch whose MAC ID ends in .00 also reads back .40. So the consistency here is that CLI MAC ID read always adds :40 to the last 2 digits of the REAL switch MAD ID. Now the question is..... WHY?

I tried to install a new iOS in the switch. Got the file from Cisco site. It only wanted to run at 9600 baud. This took 6+ hours! I used Tera Term. It displayed the % Complete and Time into the process throughout. Right at the end it says "I/O error"...
