IE-4010-4S24P Upgrade

I want to upgrade a switch IE-4010-4S24P from the version 15.2(7) to the version 15.2 (8).

I have already downloaded the bin file for the upgrade: ie4010-universalk9-mz.152-8.E1.bin

But I am not able to find a single guide to upgrade this model with the bin file. I need to do this in the safest way possible and it seems that he process to upgrade this model is different from other Catalyst models.

I need to know step by step what to do to upgrade correctly this switch.

IE4k stores its IOS in two places:  flash: or sdflash:

If I remembered correct, sdflash: is the default (flash: is the backup).

Download the TAR file and then use the following command:

archive download-sw tftp://<TFTP IP ADDRESS>/IOS_FILENAME.tar [flash:]

If the "flash:" bit at the end is not entered into the command, the IOS will get unpacked/extracted into the sdflash:.
I recommend leaving it that way because the flash: will become a "backup" in case the IOS goes nuts.

Is upgrading via the tar file the only way to proceed? I am having this problem as well , I have the bin file in flash and finding no resources on how to upgrade with it.

There are so many reasons why using the TAR file is superior to the old method of "copying the file" into the switch.

  1. The automation script (using the TAR file) will set the boot variable string correctly.
  2. The automation script will do a check to confirm the BIN file is not corrupt or not.

ios upgrade from tar is ok but can you share the process how to upgrade ios from bin file through flash. Is it the same process as for other bundle mode.

If this is IOS-XE, what is the exact model of the stack?
