Hi all,
I am doing a lab for testing multicast/IGMP snooping with VLC. I do not see IGMP traffic when streaming video on the network but I do see the stream, is VLC should send IGMP query message?
Thanks
William

You should not need VLC to do that.
The switch should be able to do that for you either with IGMP snooping querier or if you are routing the multicast PIM enabled on the interfaces will cause IGMP queries to be sent.

If you are using VLC to transmit
the stream that will not use IGMP.
IGMP will be used by clients when they want to receive the stream.

Hi Jon,
Ok. I thought VLC behave like a Bell modem/IPTV which send IGMP query on the network to discover the hosts and then the host send them back IGMP report.
Do you know any software for streaming and do send IGMP query?
Thanks
