I have a number of Catalyst 3560-CX switches operating in Instant Access mode. They are connected to a pair of 6807-XL chassis / Supervisor 2T modules.
I now need to connect 3 additional 3560-CX switches to a 6816-X-LE. On all documentation on Cisco's site, it is indicated that both of these platforms support Instant Access. However, I am having trouble provisioning the units:
On a Sup 2T, I have various Instant Access client types:
lbca1mdf1sw1#module provision create fex 155 type ?
C6800IA-48FPD Fabric Extender 48 Downlink PoE+ Module
C6800IA-48FPDR Fabric Extender KF 48 Downlink PoE+ Module
C6800IA-48TD Fabric Extender 48 Downlink Module
WS-C3560CX-12PD-S Fabric Extender Stoli12PX 12 Downlink PoE+ Module
WS-C3560CX-8XPD-S Fabric Extender Green Apple 2xmGig+6x1GE Downlink PoE+
Module
On the 6816-X-LE, I do not have as many types:
sw1#module provision create fex 131 type ?
C6800IA-48FPD Fabric Extender 48 Downlink PoE+ Module
C6800IA-48FPDR Fabric Extender KF 48 Downlink PoE+ Module
C6800IA-48TD Fabric Extender 48 Downlink Module
For kicks, we tried setting the type to the 48FPD and connecting the 3560-X, and although it rebooted in fex mode, the 6816-X-LE shows the following message:
SW1: %Unsupported SKU#=WS-C3560CX-12PD-S model, fex will be Offline
If the compact switch line is not supported on the 6840,6832,6816, why isn't it documented somewhere?? I've found 30 online whitepapers that show one or other model supporting "Instant Access" with no disclaimer or compatibility matrix.
If anyone knows of a work-around, please let me know. I am running the latest code for the 6816-X Version 15.5(1)SY2. I have not tried to go back to previous code trains or versions.
For now, I can configure the 3560-X in standalone mode, but the point of the 6816 was that we wouldn't need to do so.
Thanks much in advance for your time!

Just as an update - we did try going back to 15.2.2SY3 with similar results.
