Hello,

I have some issue turning an interface up for a specific device in my company. The device is easly connected to a hp or non poe cisco switch.

I tried the power inline never to solve the problem but it persist.

Do you have any idea why it doesn't work for this specific switch (2960 x 2xsfp+).

Please share any idea, it will help me a lot.

Regards!

ok Is that switch running a different ios version code than the effected switch ?

the device maybe having an issue with the current software on the effected 2960 if the port config etc are all the same , its physically not coming up layer 1 so something is stopping it , you know the port works and cabling as another pc works fine

Hi,

What output do you get from these comands: show log, show power inline and show interface status

Regards,

hi :

Show log: shows that my interface had been administravely down / and down... That's me. So nothing new.

Show power inline : OFF /OFF I issued power inline never

Last one: Everything normal (like a down interface)....

Thank your for the reply

why would your interface be admin down in logs , that means you shut it down with command ...shutdown ? is its still admin down ?

No i meant I did it in purpose. And then put it back to no shut...

oh ok understood , so the switchport is working as any other device works fine in it

the other switch that's working with teh device is that a 2960 too ?

yes yes !!! and it works with the 2960 with sfp (not sfp+)...

I never saw an issue like that!! it's more like random.

I am back with new information, you know Mark, my switches are stacked, so for this device to work it needs to be in the master switch ( I don't know what it means)

So it stays just one switch and i think the cable or something else is faulty, i will investigate more...

But i swear i can't understand what's going, it was last thing to think about....

I will let you informed if i find something new!!!

I didn't do the that's why I am too late.

wish you best

so there is a master and backup switches in the stack , it shouldn't matter whether its in master or backup as logically its 1 unit 1 switch when bundled together , I would definitely replace cabling etc as its showing as a layer 1 issue ,  and also compare the working no working ios versions

the master will be the switch that has its master LED lit or if you go to the command line and do

show switch it will show you

#sh switch
Switch/Stack Mac Address : c414.3c4f.cd80
                                           H/W   Current
Switch#  Role   Mac Address     Priority Version  State
----------------------------------------------------------
*1       Master c414.3c4f.cd80     15     1       Ready
 2       Member 3c0e.237b.5f00     1      1       Ready

Hello mark, finaly you were right it was a level 1 problem, the NIC of the "security" box was out of use.... The strange behavior between the master and the member i can't explain it but i know its something wrong with the boxes....

By the way thank you. I learnt a lot from my question ^^

ah good stuff glad you got it sorted :)  anytime

whats the device , it may have an issue with software running poe ?

when you turn off poe and check the port is the status set to off

#show power inline fastEthernet 0/24
Interface Admin  Oper       Power   Device              Class Max
                            (Watts)
--------- ------ ---------- ------- ------------------- ----- ----
Fa0/24    off    off        0.0     n/a                 n/a   15.4

Settung never turns off poe so that may not be the issue , are you getting any logs when its connected ?

never

Disable device detection, and disable power to the port.

down/down is a physical issue as well , have you tried a different cable , move it to another port ?

do other devices laptops work fine in the actual port ?

Yes it works fine with other devices like my laptop, and i just knew that there's a POE sfp+ switch working just fine with that same device...

So i compared the configuration, everything seem set to standard or default for the working switch... why it doesn't work realy weird.

The device is an access control box that connect to the switch so we can view the access to the building.

thx for your reply... I am new in the factory, so  I am trying my best with issues i found...

If you have any new idea, it will be welcome.

Best regards!!

I'm having a similar issue. My device is not being recognized by #show power inline police. Here are some logging information that may be helpful. I would like to be able to control POE on this port.

With device plugged in...

#show power inline police gigabitEthernet 1/0/15

Without device plugged in...

Port 15 detection status is set to 0. How can this be changed to 4?
