Hi all,
I have configured intervlan routing in 3750 switch and 6 no of smb switch. In this all are working fine but i am able to ping the host by IP address in any VLAN,but I can't able to ping the Host with the names.I am able to ping by name within the same LAN or same VLAN but i am going to ping with name on another LAN or another VLAN host I can't able to ping. In locally they don't have any DNS server.Within the same LAN or same VLAN It's ping with name but Ping with another LAN or another VLAN i can't ping with name.
so kindly provide solution for this issues because our client need to do this.
Regards,
kabeer

Hello, sounds like you may need a DNS server or resolution.
You can use ping to test both the computer name and the IP address of the computer. If pinging the IP address is successful, but pinging the computer name is not, you might have a name resolution problem. In this case, ensure that the computer name you are specifying can be resolved through the local Hosts file, by using Domain Name System (DNS) queries, or through NetBIOS name resolution techniques.

hi bilal,
Thanks for your response,
But i am able to Ping with name on same LAN or same VLAN.The problem arise are during Intervlan communication, here I can't ping by name on another LAN or another VLAN.If there is problem with name resolution means i can't ping my local hosts connect through same switch but I am able to ping by name connected through same switch. If we go for intervlan communication at that time I can't ping by name on another host connected through another switches.

Hello, this is probably because during logon to the network, PCs announce its netbios name / PC name (this is presumably at layer 2) or within the same subnet. It does not travel across routers or layer 3 hop.
This is not a networking problem, more a windows type problem, and probably be more beneficial in getting better answers in that kind of forum.
Just a link that might help you:

Hope this helps
