IOS image for 6500 series

I have a 6509 device with VS-S720-10G-3C but no IOS image. There are different types of IOS images for me to download.

Kindly seeking advices on what to look out for in order to download an IOS image that is compatible to my device.

Hi Mark,

I have viewed that link before but what confused me is that there are different types of IOS softwares such as adventerprise, ipbase, etc. May i know what are the differences?

There are also different software types such as IOS software, IOS rommon software, etc. May i know what are differences too?

there the license types , advanced can do everything bgp pbr etc and lan  while ipbase can only do some form of basic routing and lan , these are the licenses you would buy the advanced would be very expensive on 6500 , you can put an ipbase on it if you have no license

roomon you don't need to be concerned really with at the minute , its the ios software you want for the switch to run , the roomon is the recovery software

Thank you for clarifying.

So if i were to have other other switch or router models, i would just use the cisco website to search for the ios software. Cisco website will list down all the different types of software that are compatible and i just need to choose the features that i need, and the best will definitely be costly than the others.

6509 with SUP VS-S720-10G-3C require IOS 12.2(33)SXH or later. But 15.1.2-SY10(MD) is the suggested version by Cisco.

This IOS is available in following packages as per features:

1)    IP Services--- IP Base + Full IP Routing, BGP, Policy Base Routing, GLBP, High Availability, Multi-VRF, WAN Protocols, Enhanced QOS features and Catalyst 6500 VSS. 

2)    Advanced IP Services---- IP Services + ISIS, MPLS, Layer 2 VPNs, Layer 3 VPNs, IPv6. 

3)    Advanced Enterprise Services---- IP Services + IPv6, Layer 3 multiprotocol like Appletalk Routing, IPX Routing, IBM Networking Services.
