IOS upgrade for EOL devices.

Hi Team,

We are in the process of upgrading the Cisco Switches to latest  image. However  these devices are already declared as EOL and not in any contract with Cisco. Can we get the clarification on below at the earliest?

 1>Do we need to have a SmartNet contract for the lifetime of the device in order to download the code ?

 2> If we proceed with upgrading the IOS to latest image its declared as illegal?

 3> Post upgrade of the devices to latest version are we  able to put the devices in to cisco Contract?

Need your assistance  to get the answer on urgent basis. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation's.

smartnet or not if its EOL you cant download te ios version usually anymore from Cisco website , device does need to be supported under contract to get current software but if its eol it may be removed from site like 2950s etc

2 No if you have access to the latest images you can still use them there just not supported at all by Cisco if EOL , that's your risk

No not usually if there EOL , although some resellers will support the devices through themselves as they may have spares or hardware only ,but you will not get software support that's your own decision to use out of support software
