IOS Upgrade on a 1841 router

hi all, im planning to upgrade the router's

IOS coz the current IOS does not support advanced routing features. The 1841 router has an SDM. I just want to know whats the relationship between the IOS and SDM? are they stored on the same memory. what happens if when I upgrade the IOS and delete the original IOS, would it dekete also the SDM?

Hi,

The IOS & the SDM are two separate files, when you delete some of them, the other is not deleted.

But, in some products, when you upgrade the IOS you need also to upgrade the SDM version. like the PIX & ASA.
