Hi,
Kindly advise if IP domain name configuration is needed on core switch. What are its uses?
sw(conft)#ip domain-name cisco.com

A domain name would generally be required if you intend to manage the device using SSH.
SSH is preferred rather than using telnet for management of the device.

Hello
One way the domain name can used on the router/switch is to append it to any host request that doesn't have a full FQDN prior to a dns lookup/query.
Example:
Switch: ip address = 10.10.10.10
hostname= switch1
domain name = stan.com
FQDN = switch1@stan.com
@rob Ingram - FYI you do not need to specify any domain name to allow ssh to function, using a label when creating the crypto RSA key would be applicable.
