I need to upgrade my current linecard WS-X6408A-GBIC. I would like to install WS-X6816-GBIC linecard. I have read that the newer linecard is compatible when using the correct DFC card. How can I tell if I have the correct daughter card installed?

I also read that the DFC card comes installed on the module but I am not sure if that is true. How can I know for sure that these linecards will work before I purchase the WS-X6816-GBIC modules? If I need to install a new DFC how will I know which one I need before I purchase these modules?

Hi,
The card you are trying to install is end-of-life. The replacemnet card is WS-X6724-SFP
see table-2 in this link:

I was reading that the WS-X6724-SFP is not compatible with the 6503e chassis. Is this true? If not do I need to install another DFC card to upgrade to this module?

not true. For all newer cards you need the E chassis.
