If I configure my catalyst switches for jumbo frames, do I need to configure my edge routers also?

THanks in advance.

Q.
Do the on-board Gigabit Ethernet ports on the Cisco 3800 routers support jumbo frames?

A. Yes. The on-board GE ports on the Cisco 3800 routers support jumbo frame (frames up to 16351 bytes).

Cisco3825(config)#int g0/0
Cisco3825(config-if)#mtu ?
   <64-16351>  MTU size in bytes
By the way mostly this will be 9216

Are the jumbo frames going to be routed to a different facility within your network?

If so yes, as the router will discard them.

This answer is based on the assumption that you have a remote site with a datacenter elsewhere, where you have your storage residing?

Our storage/datacenter is residing in our main hub. The remote sites are connected via Metro E. link.

In that case yes you have to configure all the devices on the path to your storage. That way the devices will not discard the jumbo packets.

Ok thanks.  Do you know how to configure a 3825 router to accept jumbo frames?

Thanks again.
