dot1q port (sub-interface) will send packet will vlan tag on it, but pure L3 interface will send frame without ay tag. If two routers back to back connected, there is no difference between dot1q and dedicated physical port. When switch comes in between, vlan tag plays role.

Hi

What if the COREs Has Many SVIs , what;s the functionality between L3 Routed Link and L2 Dot1q?

thanks

Hello Ibrahim ,

I will try to explain ,

VLANs put tag on frames to ensure packet do not leave layer 2 broadcast domain and yet will reach to all ports part of that vlan ( as per tag ) .

Layer 3 SVIs on other hand provides layer 3 reachability for vlans and hosts inside layer 2 vlan . To achieve this all layer2 vlan host provide with related layer 3 SVIs ip address as gateway .

I hope you got it by now .
